Arsenal should take a gamble and make £60m Premier forward their number one target - opinion

In a quest to bridge the gap to Manchester City next season, Arsenal need to take an educated risk in the transfer market this summer.

Right now, it’s all pretty quiet at the Emirates, it seems as if Edu and his team have been able to keep their plans away from the public eye.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Benjamin Sesko became very public in the end, but some sources suggested that Arsenal wanted it that way.

There’s a feeling among so called ‘in the know’ Arsenal sources that the club are working on something special, a signing to help their quest for silverware next season.

And if Gabriel Jesus is staying in north London, then it makes sense for the Gunners to veto a move for a striker.

Kai Havertz is an excellent option for Mikel Arteta, revitalised by the Spaniard’s faith.

And considering Gabriel Martinelli could still have a future centrally, there’s plenty of options.

That being said, Arsenal were lacking a world class winger to dovetail with Bukayo Saka last season.

Neither Martinelli or Leandro Trossard properly won the spot at left-wing, and Arteta couldn’t risk resting Saka.

Despite his injuries, Pedro Neto is the perfect signing for Mikel Arteta at Arsenal

Although Arsenal decided against intervening in Juventus’ move for long-term target Douglas Luiz this summer, it could be time to reignite a different old flame.

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto remains an exceptional talent, someone who can improve Arsenal’s starting eleven.

And although Arsenal are concerned about Neto’s injury record, signing the 24-year-old could be worth the risk.

Currently at Euro 2024 with Portugal, Neto, who predominantly plays as a right-winger cutting on to his left, showed a different side to his game.

Neto started as a left-winger against Georgia and delivered a strong performance despite Portugal’s defeat.

Arteta desires versatile options who can play in multiple positions, and Neto is exactly that.

Senior staff at Arsenal want a player with ‘x-factor’

Despite his strong end to the season, Neto would be an upgrade on Trossard and could really excel at a top club.

Yes, Neto’s injury history should be a concern, but the £60m-rated winger could absolutely be worth the risk.

Arsenal’s senior staff decided they wanted a player with ‘x-factor’ after losing to Bayern Munich last season, and Neto fits the bill.

It’s difficult to pin what makes someone an ‘Arteta player’, but Neto has a determination in his game which is shared by the Arsenal manager.

And if Nico William’s wages are too expensive for Arsenal, then the Wolves winger could be stellar alternative.
