BBC pundit shares Rangers v Tottenham verdict after what's happened recently

Ryan McGowan believes Thursday is a “good opportunity” for Rangers to face Tottenham in their Europa League clash.

The Gers have been in a purple patch of form recently winning four of their last five games with their most recent victory coming against Ross County in the Scottish Premiership.

Hamza Igamane is a player who has been in particularly good form recently, with Philippe Clement likely to look towards him to be the cause of an upset on 12 December.

Speaking on the Scottish Football Podcast (9 December), former Celtic ace McGowan shared his thoughts on the Gers’ Battle of Britain Europa League game against Spurs.

“Rangers will be looking at Tottenham thinking this is a good opportunity and a good time to play them,” he said.

“Spurs have not been getting the results they’ve wanted and they will not be looking forward to coming to Ibrox with how well Rangers do in Europe.

“That means it could be a cracking game. Rangers are in a good vein of form, they’re feeling confident.

“But Spurs know if they play to their capabilities then they should be winning the game, so it sets it up perfectly on Thursday night.”

Rangers could cause a massive upset against Tottenham

If you told Rangers fans a month or so ago that they’d be in the top eight of the Europa League table they’d have probably laughed in your face.

But, instead, that is now their reality and their upcoming week of football is some of the most crucial they’ll have this season.

Not only are they set to face Tottenham on Thursday but they’re also readying themselves for the Scottish League Cup final against Celtic on Sunday.

While both games seemed out of reach around a month ago, the fact that some pundits and journalists are suggesting Rangers could nick a win shows how good Clement’s men have been recently.

Tottenham have had a torrid time across all competitions recently which is yet another reason why the Gers could potentially pull off something special in their upcoming tie.

Of course, these are all ifs, buts and maybes at the moment but the fact a Rangers win is even being mentioned shows how far they’ve come over the last month or so.
