Brendan Rodgers has overseen his “best game as a Celtic manager” during their recent goalless draw against Atalanta on Wednesday (23 October)

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson praised the 51-year-old manager for how his team responded to Celtic’s previous Champions League thrashing.

The Hoops suffered a humiliating 7-1 loss against Borussia Dortmund during their previous match in the competition, which they were quick to put behind them.

The Scottish giants picked up a point in midweek, leaving the club 20th in the table following the opening three matches.

Football Insider revealed that Celtic could bank around £48million if they are able to make it into the knockout rounds of the competition this season, adding extra incentive to the club.

Brendan Rodgers made Celtic more pragmatic against Atalanta

“It was arguably his best game as Celtic manager coming off the back of the thrashing that they had last time out in the Champions League,” Robinson told Football Insider.

“The next level for Brendan Rodgers is to take them to that knockout stage of the Champions League, at home at Celtic Park they’re a different proposition.

“They were a lot more pragmatic, their work rate off the ball.

“The first time that we’ve seen Celtic surrender possession without this gung-ho going forward attacking football.

“They were lot more pragmatic, they were hard-working, the way that the team was set up.

“I saw a different style to Brendan Rodgers and whether he tongue-in-cheek, he had a little bit of a joke at the way that he said, ‘was that pragmatic enough for it?’

“That was a fantastic away performance and a really good result for Brendan Rodgers and Celtic and that gives them a platform to go forward on the Champions League and actually against Leipzig at home.

“I wouldn’t be against watching them play like that in the same way as they did.

“Grind out a result, get a point, and then try and get yourself through to the next phases.

“They really did show a different side to themselves as a team and as a manager.”
