Celtic fans have been left shocked after Alistair Johnston picked up an apparent hamstring injury while on international duty with Canada.
Jesse Marsch’s side ran out 2-1 winners from their friendly clash against the U.S.A. in Kansas City thanks to goals from Jonathan David and Jacob Shaffelburg.
However, Johnston was substituted after just 25 minutes as he was unable to play on after suffering a knock – raising red flags for Celtic supporters.
The Canada boss provided an update after the game as he confirmed: “He felt a little bit of tightness in his hamstring. He just felt it was smarter to step out.”
It seems his withdrawal from the game was purely precautionary, but after his impressive start to the season with the Hoops, concerns have risen over his fitness.
With Celtic edging closer to the beginning of their Champions League campaign, fans were hopeful of having a fully-fit squad to start quickly.
However, the latest news surrounding Johnston hints they may not be so lucky.
