Celtic have been urged to go all out in the last few days of the transfer window and sign players who are ready to compete at the highest level.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, ex-Celtic striker Frank McAvennie believes the Scottish Champions still have work to do in the transfer window and are well-placed to bring in multiple new signings.
Now that O’Riley is officially out of the door, joining Brighton for a Scottish record fee of £25 million, Celtic are working on multiple deals before the end of the transfer window (August 30).
Celtic set to make moves in last few days of the transfer window
The Glasgow giants have already secured a loan deal for Barcelona left-back Alex Valle and could be set to add another central defender to their ranks.
“Hopefully they’ll spend fortunes”, McAvennie told Football Insider.
“I know they’re going to sign a new midfielder for around £8 or £9 million, I think they’ve agreed terms and all that.
“There’s also the left-back coming in from Barcelona (Alex Valle) which is all done and there’s a centre-half coming in which I’m very happy about.
“That’s my boxes ticked, a left-back, a left centre-half.
“I’m hoping for a playmaker because let’s be honest, there are three players in there at the moment (Paulo) Bernardo, (Callum) McGregor, and (Reo) Hatate, if one of them gets injured you’ve got young boys coming in.
“They need four players to fight for three positions and this new signing, Engels, will help that bit of quality, apparently he’s been sought after everywhere.
“Apparently he’s a decent player, I don’t know too much about him but he looks the kind of boy who can just walk in.
“As I say, it’s all good having good players but coming into Celtic or Rangers they need to fill big boots.”
