Karim Virani’s departure as chief commercial officer begins a reshuffle of the decision-makers at Rangers, Chris Jack has said.
Jack reported in the Rangers Review on 12 December that the exit – following the prior departures of John Bennett and Creag Robertson – is part of a major restructuring in the “corridors of power” at Ibrox.
The current operations at the top level have been blasted by all around Ibrox, but John Gilligan has now implemented a reshaping of the boardroom which has been exclusively made up of investors for the last 10 years.
Rangers reshuffle sorely needed amid off-field debacle at Ibrox
Given the year the Light Blues have had both on and off the pitch, sweeping changes from top to bottom will be welcome for the Ibrox faithful, who have made their opinions clear on the current setup in Govan.
Last week’s annual general meeting won’t have eased their concerns much at the time, particularly the revelation that five first-team players were sold in the summer for a lousy total of £810,000.
The Gers losing £17.2million in their latest accounts while still being 11 points behind Celtic in the Premiership will make bridging that gap look impossible, highlighting the clear need for change upstairs.
With the vacancy left by CEO James Bisgrove’s departure in May only being filled the day after Sunday’s League Cup Final, fans won’t have much confidence in these changes coming thick and fast.
But with the boardroom now seemingly on the same page as the Bears look to finally address their off-field problems, the coming months could be crucial to deciding the long-term future.
In other Rangers news, one player’s return from injury at Auchenhowie gives Clement the perfect chance to cash in this January.
