Club drops bid to sign Rangers ace, they want Real Madrid player instead - report

Norwich City have dropped their bid to sign Rangers attacker Rabbi Matondo and will look to other targets, according to The Pink Un.

The Norwich-based outlet reported on Wednesday (28 August) that the Canaries have seen a last-minute loan offer for the Welsh international rejected by Philippe Clement’s side ahead of the deadline.

Johannes Hoff Thorup is on the lookout for further attacking reinforcements ahead of Friday (30 August) and Norwich have made the emphatic decision to continue to consider a move for Real Madrid’s Reinier.

The Gers are thought to be unwilling to sanction Matondo’s exit at this stage of the summer, despite suggestions that the winger’s future in Glasgow remained in the balance [Chris Jack, 26 August].

Will Rabbi Matondo exit Rangers amid Norwich City transfer rumours?

Only a week ago, most Rangers fans wouldn’t have been too disappointed to see Matondo exit Ibrox, but after his performance against Ross County the Gers simply cannot afford to let him leave this summer.

The Welshman is painfully inconsistent and he frustrates supporters and pundits just as much as he entertains them, but he possesses that star quality that simply cannot be coached into players.

His display at Hampden Park was a demonstration of that, as was his goal against Celtic last term. If he can begin to perform like that week in and week out, he could easily become a crucial part of Clement’s side.

It is good to see that the Light Blues have point-blank refused to even negotiate over the winger’s future, rather than viewing this approach from Norwich City as an opportunity to make a quick buck on an exit-linked player.

Hopefully, the Canaries will turn their attention to alternative targets such as Reinier between now and the end of August so that they don’t return to Ibrox with another offer to try and force the Gers’ hand.
