John Souttar and Tom Lawrence remain doubts for the Rangers v Aberdeen clash on 30 October at Pittodrie, Philippe Clement has confirmed.
The duo were not involved against St Mirren on 27 October and the Belgian was asked about their availability for the next game.
He claims that Souttar risked re-injury if he played and is a doubt for the Aberdeen clash, much like Lawrence.
Via the Scotsman, he said: “John couldn’t play today. Our medical staff and performance staff were really clear that if we put him on the pitch it was a big risk for an injury. So that’s why I didn’t do it.
“Will he be okay for Wednesday? That I will see in the next few days.”
When asked about Lawrence, he responded: “I don’t know if he (will be), to be honest.”
Rangers will want John Souttar and Tom Lawrence back v Aberdeen
Gers’ urgent need for Souttar’s return to the side is underscored by Robin Propper’s recent underwhelming performances, particularly against St Mirren.
The Scotsman’s physical presence, leadership and defensive acumen have been integral to the backline, providing stability that has been lacking in his absence.
His ability to read the game and intercept play is crucial, especially in high-pressure matches like the upcoming clash against Aberdeen, where defensive solidity will be key.
Moreover, Souttar’s partnership with other defenders has shown promise in building from the back, an aspect that has faltered with Propper’s inclusion.
In the final third, Lawrence’s potential return could be a game-changer for Gers.
The Wales international’s knack for creating and scoring goals, combined with his experience at this level, makes him a vital asset in the final third.
This season, he’s scored three goals and provided an assist in seven league games and has become a reliable option in front of goal.
