Dan Friedkin has emerged as a donor of the Republican Party in America ahead of his potential takeover of Everton, as shared by The Times.
The newspaper has reported that the businessman and film producer has often donated around $20-30,000 [£22,967] a time to the political party that has fielded Donald Trump as its candidate in the latest election cycle.
The Friedkin Group, who also owns Roma, is poised to take over Everton, subject to regulatory approval, after agreeing to purchase Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake in the club [The Guardian].
The future of Everton under Dan Friedkin
The era of Moshiri at Everton has been one to forget, with the British-Iranian businessman’s time at the club being volatile, to say the least.
Everton have seen their fortunes plummet since Moshiri took majority control of the Toffees, with them battling relegation season after season recently.
Therefore, the arrival of new management at the helm will undoubtedly be a sight for sore eyes for fans who have had to endure some topsy-turvy and nerve-wracking moments over the last few years.
The Goodison Park faithful have had to hold their breath at times, with relegation looking like a possible outcome, and Sean Dyche is already potentially on the way out ahead of Friedkin coming in [TBR].
While many want to keep politics outside of football, it is an aspect that pervades every aspect of our lives and Friedkin’s support for the Republican party back in America should rightly be scrutinised.
However, since it seems like Moshiri has been unable to learn from his past mistakes, at this point, fans will be happy to see anybody other than the British-Iranian take charge of the club.
