David de Gea sends message to Man United fans after remarkable twist

David de Gea praised Man United for the impact the club had on his career after saving two penalties in Fiorentina’s 2-1 win over AC Milan on Sunday (October 6).

The 33-year-old joined the Serie A club after spending all of last season without a club, having been released by Man United back in 2023.

After a tricky start to the season, the Spaniard is starting to find his feet once again, denying Theo Hernandez and Tammy Abraham from the spot to help secure all three points for Fiorentina.

In Manchester, however, things aren’t going so swimmingly, with the club sitting in 14th and without a win in their previous five games across all competitions.

De Gea’s replacement, Andre Onana, has conceded 96 goals in 61 appearances across all competitions since taking over between the sticks.

During his 12-year spell with the 20-time Premier League champions, De Gea was named their Player of the Year four times, a remarkable feat for a goalkeeper.

After making 545 appearances for the club and helping them win a Premier League, Europa League, and an FA Cup among others, the ‘keeper clearly still has a lot of love for his old side, taking to Instagram to let fans know he still thinks of them.

De Gea will have the next couple of weeks off to rest and recuperate after once again being snubbed by Spain manager Luis de la Fuente.

After a decent 0-0 draw with high-flying Aston Villa, Erik ten Hag will be hoping his side can start to pick up some points, and potentially save his own skin.
