David Edgar: Rangers attacker now 'highly likely' to leave

Cyriel Dessers is now highly likely to leave Rangers this summer after a month of speculation, according to David Edgar.

Edgar took to the Heart and Hand Podcast account on X to report that despite having Danilo and Hamza Igamane, the Gers are still left short up top.

Granted, a few names are being linked with a move to Ibrox but there isn’t a specific target set in stone as of yet, added Edgar.

How will Rangers combat their striker problem this summer

Rangers have several number nine options available to them, regardless of how the fans feel about some of those names in the squad.

The likes of Dessers, Sam Lammers, Danilo and now Igamane can all be deployed as the focal point of an attack.

But, for the first two mentioned – their future looks to be heading elsewhere.

Lammers spent the second half of the 2023/24 season away from Ibrox and back in his home country for FC Utrecht.

The Dutchman did hit a solid return whilst in the Eredivisie but with the price that the Gers could be looking for, a move is not yet on the cards.

Dessers, whilst he was one of Philippe Clement’s top scorers, has handed in a transfer request [Soccernet, 25 June] amid the recent interest shown in him.

Albion Rrahmani and Lawrence Shankland are two names that have been most heavily linked with a move to Glasgow.

In Rrahmani’s case, it seems as if he’s heading to Sparta Prague [Pro Sport, 29 June] whilst Shankland would likely go to Rangers with no questions asked.

Although nothing is set in stone yet, it would be surprising to see Rangers not go for another striker should Dessers or Lammers leave this summer.

In other Rangers news, a British defender has impressed scouts as Gers look to beat Celtic to a new transfer this summer.
