‘Electric’ player now set to have medical and sign for Aston Villa tomorrow - Fabrizio Romano

Aston Villa have wasted no time in backing manager Unai Emery ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The Villains have already wrapped up six signings as they continue to prepare for a return to Europe’s elite competition.

Despite the loss of Douglas Luiz, Unai Emery is set to be well-stocked in the middle of the park, with Ross Barkley and Enzo Barrenechea already arriving at Villa Park. Aston Villa are also set to smash their transfer record to land Everton star Amadou Onana

It was revealed on Saturday that Villa are close to finalising a deal to sign Onana, with Emery’s men set to pay £50 million to land the Belgian.

And Villa’s summer spending spree is far from done as Fabrizio Romano claims another player is set to undergo a medical at Bodymoor Heath on Monday.

Jaden Philogene set for Villa medical

Not many expected Villa to return for Jaden Philogene this quickly after the talented winger left Villa Park for Hull City last summer.

Philogene has gone on to enjoy a dazzling season in the Championship, where he netted 12 times and provided six assists for Hull.

Despite interest from the likes of Everton, Barcelona and Ipswich Town, Villa look set to wrap up the signing next week.

Indeed, Romano has shared the latest on the winger’s switch back to the Midlands and he’s set for a medical at Bodymoor Heath tomorrow.

What Philogene said after Aston Villa exit

Villa supporters will undoubtedly be delighted to see an academy product return to the club after such a promising year in the Championship.

Philogene was offloaded for a fee worth around £5 million last summer and due to a 30 per cent sell-on clause, he will return to Villa for £13 million

Despite his brief spell away from Villa, the ‘electric’ winger moved on last year in search of regular first-team football and it appears to have worked out well for both parties involved.

Following his exit last summer, Philogene broke his silence on leaving Villa for the Championship.

“The (Hull City) manager, Liam (Rosenior), the way these guys play football sold it to me. He showed me where I can play and it suits my style of football,” he said.

“It all played a part to get me where I am now. I know what it’s like to be in a relegation battle, I know what the Championship’s all about and I’ve got to bring all of that here to Hull.”
