Exclusive: 27-yr-old rejects Everton offer & set to sign extension

Wilfred Ndidi is set to commit his future to Leicester City by signing a new contract and delivering a transfer blow to Everton, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Ndidi will snub interest from clubs in the Premier League and across Europe by signing the new deal.

The Nigerian’s decision has been described as a “huge” boost to Steve Cooper given the central midfielder’s experience and quality.

This will be a blow to Everton, who have registered their interest in signing the 27-year-old.

A new contract for Ndidi also means the club will be able to focus their limited resources on strengthening in other areas of the team.

Ndidi joined Leicester from Genk in a deal worth £17million in 2016 and was part of the squad which lifted the FA Cup in 2022,

He has made 273 appearances for the Foxes since his arrival, with 32 of those coming in the Championship last season at Leicester lifted the title.

After the midfielder’s contract officially expired at the end of June, it looked as if his time at the King Power had come to an end, especially given the level of interest in his signature.

However, he has now committed his future to the recently promoted Premier League club and will be part of the squad that looks to stay up next season.

Leicester are still keen to bring a new central midfielder to the King Power this summer, but Ndidi’s contract extension has made the position less of a priority.

Leicester’s transfer budget has been restricted by profit and sustainability concerns, and former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider they could now face a 12-point deduction.
