Exclusive: Liverpool & Aston Villa in race to sign 6ft 5in sensation

Liverpool and Aston Villa are both keen on a summer deal for Juventus centre-back Dean Huijsen, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old is a long-term target for both clubs and they are now weighing up a move for the sensation.

Sources say Huijsen is seen as “one for the future” by Liverpool and Aston Villa after earning his first senior experience on loan with Roma last season.

The Spain Under-21 international is under a long-term contract at Juventus running until June 2028 after penning a new deal last summer (2023).

Liverpool and Aston Villa are ready to bolster their defensive options in this summer window and have identified Huijsen as a top target.

He has played just once for Juventus’ senior side but made five starts in 14 total appearances on loan with Roma in the 2023-24 campaign.

Huijsen scored twice in Serie A for Daniele De Rossi’s side as they finished sixth in the Italian top tier.

The 6ft 5in defender was also a prolific scorer at youth level, notching 18 goals in 71 appearances for Juve’s age-group sides.

Liverpool are keen on adding defensive reinforcements after Joel Matip left the club at the end of his contract last month.

Arne Slot’s side are yet to seal their first signing of the summer transfer window.

Aston Villa have already wrapped up seven deals this summer as they prepare to play in the Champions League this term.
