Fabrizio Romano: Rangers loan-to-buy move isn't going to happen

Rangers will be rebuffed in their hopes of signing Almeria youngster Kaiky, Fabrizio Romano says.

The renowned transfer journalist told GiveMeSport on Wednesday [28 August] that the Spanish outfit do not want to sell the exciting Brazilian, for whom the Gers had reportedly made a loan-to-buy offer – over £600k for the initial loan fee, followed by a £5.9m sum for the permanent transfer.

This bid had been rejected [Fabrizio Romano, 23 August] and there now looks to be no other way to make the deal happen for the 20-year-old centre-back.

Romano said: “I don’t think the Kaiky deal with Almeria is happening, because they want to keep the player.

“They’re not accepting the loan with the buy clause, but in general I think they [Rangers] will be active [in the final days].”

Rangers have a potentially season-defining 48 hours left in the transfer window, with Philippe Clement desperate to offload several stars in order to make deals happen.

The loan-to-buy approach is vastly becoming a market of its own as clubs look to pad out their financial obligations, both to meet Financial Fair Play regulations and to secure players even when they are struggling to sell.

Progress does appear to be on its way as the deadline rears its head on Friday night, with Scott Wright close to a move to Birmingham City [Fourth Official, 28 August] and Blackburn Rovers reportedly agreeing a fee for Todd Cantwell [Alan Nixon, 28 August].

The Light Blues have approached Sassuolo for a potential loan-to-buy for Albanian forward Nedim Bajrami [Rangers Review, 28 August].

Another offer has supposedly been lodged for Egyptian attacker Ibrahim Adel [btolat, 28 August], with Clement looking for considerable attacking reinforcements – even after hitting Ross County for six last weekend.

It promises to be chaotic on the blue half of Glasgow this week.
