Finance Expert: Rangers could harm own business as Ibrox saga continues

Rangers face potential harm to other areas of the business the longer the debacle involving Ibrox continues, Dan Plumley has warned.

It was confirmed the Gers will play home fixtures at Hampden Park until early September due to a delay in redevelopment work on the Copland Road Stand (BBC Sport, 15 July).

There has been no definitive date given yet for when Rangers will actually resume playing home matches at Ibrox and finance expert Plumley said they will want as swift a resolution as possible before there are financial ramifications across the board.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, he said: “You don’t want to be doing it for a long time, do you?

“People can say it’s August but in reality when people say that you can probably add a month or so on at least, it always tends to play out that way.

“So I think Rangers were probably fully aware of this and it does create challenges in other aspects of the business, you don’t want it dragging too long and I’m sure there’ll be looking for the speediest of resolutions there.

“It’s kind of at a point now where they are where they are, the planning done beforehand to not get in this situation has not worked out you’re then just trying to get a resolution as soon as possible because it starts to impact other areas of the business.

“The longer that goes and starts to spill out into other things and you just want that focus there as a club and I think these things can sometimes be a distraction.”

Rangers need Ibrox return ASAP

On the one hand, it is good that the Gers found a temporary solution, one that sees them remain in Glasgow too.

But they really need to get some clarity on the long-term situation as soon as possible, not least because supporters need to know how it’s going to continue impacting them.

From a financial point of view too, though, they don’t want to have too much damage inflicted upon them by not being at Ibrox.

It has been a mess of a situation, one that has partially resolved itself with the Hampden compromise, but everyone just wants an end to the farce.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are in pole position to sign a player who Celtic now also want.
