Hugh Keevins has predicted mayhem to break out at Ibrox if Rangers are unable to win against St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership.

The Gers welcome the Saints on 27 October, with Philippe Clement’s team looking to bounce back domestically after their 1-0 loss to Kilmarnock.

Early in the season, Dave King was outspoken about the failings of the current board, and writing for the Daily Record [26 October], Keevins believes a loss or draw to Stephen Robinson’s team could make for ugly viewing off the pitch.

“Nothing will mitigate against mayhem breaking out if Rangers contrive to draw with, or lose to, a feckless St Mirren on the rebound from three defeats,” he wrote.

“Public opinion has shifted in a way that cultivates fertile ground for anybody seen as being capable of reversing a highly visible decline on the park by smartening up the club’s affairs off it.”

At the moment, the Light Blues are in a bit of a tough spot, without a permanent chairman or CEO, with other vacancies available too.

The results on the pitch haven’t been encouraging this season, with the Bears currently nine points off the top of the Scottish Premiership, albeit with a game in hand.

Clement came into the job early last season and won over the fans after some impressive performances from Rangers.

Michael Beale had turned the mood sour around Ibrox and the Belgian manager’s arrival came as fresh air for the Light Blues, but that has quickly turned toxic yet again at the club.

Results on the pitch have lacked enthusiasm and motivation, and while the 4-0 victory against FCSB on 24 October in the Europa League was encouraging, it still wasn’t enough to paper over the cracks.

St Mirren are on a seven-game winless run, having lost their last three matches, and anything other than a win against them will undoubtedly incense the Ibrox faithful.

In other Rangers news, the club can afford to appoint a manager who recently got the better of Clement.
