Ibrox View: Clear frontrunner emerges in race to sign Rangers player after Monday announcement

A clear frontrunner has seemingly emerged in the transfer race to secure the services of Rangers attacker Sam Lammers this summer.

After an impressive loan spell in the second half of the 2023/24 season, FC Utrecht were considering a move for the Dutchman, according to their technical director Jordy Zuidam.

However, it then emerged that the Eredivisie outfit were struggling to match the wage demands of the 27-year-old, putting a transfer in jeopardy. [Get Football News Bene, 4 June].

AZ Alkmaar appear poised to sign Rangers attacker Sam Lammers

Due to this, Utrecht turned their attention to Noah Ohio at Hull City as an alternative to Lammers and officially secured his services on 8 July.

This virtually puts them out of the race to secure the Dutchman’s services, leaving AZ Alkmaar without any competition.

It’s understood that AZ are poised to launch an opening £2.5million bid to secure Lammers’ services in the coming weeks. [Football Scotland, 2 July]

Gers must demand more for the 27-year-old after his impressive loan spell at FC Utrecht last season.

The Dutch forward scored 13 goals and provided six assists in 21 appearances for Utrecht, showcasing his ability to be a consistent goal threat and creative force in the final third.

This level of performance should significantly increase his market value.

Moreover, Lammers is still relatively young at 27 years old and has the potential to improve further so AZ should be paying more for his services.

In other Rangers news, an Ibrox-linked player is expected to pass his medical at the club despite an intense injury recently.
