Ibrox View: Rangers star could be keen on Ibrox exit as former teammate speaks out

Rangers have already been incredibly active in the early stages of the transfer window, but more movement both in and out of Ibrox is expected.

Philippe Clement would almost certainly like one or two new additions at either end of the pitch and the likes of Ben Davies and Scott Wright are still expected to complete moves away from Glasgow this summer.

On top of that, there is still a belief around Ibrox that should the right offer be made for Ridvan Yilmaz, the Light Blues could be tempted to cash in on the defender’s services [Chris Jack, 3 June].

The Turkish defender was heavily linked with a move away from Rangers in January and while no such move came to fruition, former Gers midfielder John Lundstram may have just revealed Yilmaz’s stance on move to Turkey.

As quoted by Football Scotland on Sunday (7 July) Lundstram said: “I spoke to Ridvan Yilmaz and he told me how well everyone here would treat me. When I was in Trabzon, everyone I saw welcomed me warmly. Everyone here is very polite and kind. I hope to pay them back with my performances.

“When I was in talks with the club, my conversation with the manager left a big impression on me. We talked about both the city and the history of the club and the style he wanted me to play.

“It was a style I liked and it wasn’t a hard decision to make after that. I think we have a very good squad here and I will try to contribute with my own quality to help the team.”

Will Rangers sell Ridvan Yilmaz amid Ibrox transfer speculation?

While Yilmaz in this situation quite clearly was just giving a teammate advice on a future move, his guidance to Lundstram shows that he thinks incredibly highly of Turkish football in general.

During his time in Glasgow, the left-back has been the subject of criticism from pundits and supporters alike and while that began to change last season, he can still be a divisive figure from time to time.

Whether or not any Turkish club like Trabzonspor would be prepared to match the Gers’ valuation for his services remains to be seen, but if they did, agreeing personal terms doesn’t seem like it would be an issue.

Hopefully, Rangers don’t allow Yilmaz to depart this summer as he was one of their best and most consistent players under Clement last season but this could be one to watch over the coming weeks.
