Ibrox View: Tavernier reaction to Clement decision telling in Rangers v Tottenham footage

Philippe Clement has been criticised throughout the 2024/25 campaign and now he could be losing the trust of some members in the Rangers dressing room.

The Light Blues fans will have been pleasantly surprised with their team’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham in the Europa League on Thursday 12 December, though they did deserve all three points.

Despite the superb performance, the result has not come without its negative reactions, especially ahead of a crucial Scottish League Cup final clash with Celtic on Sunday 15 December.

In a video posted to X by @scottaf [14 December], James Tavernier appears to disagree with Clement’s decision to bring Cyriel Dessers on for the closing stages of the Spurs tie.

If this is the case, it would really not come as much of a surprise, given how critical fans and the media have been on the opinion-splitting striker despite his 34 goals in 79 total appearances.

Players and managers are always likely to clash, especially when there is so much pressure to perform, but these arguments usually happen behind the scenes.

On this occasion, it looks like the veteran defender has been caught out by the cameras, and it takes no genius to work out what he was saying after looking over at Dessers on the touchline.

The Gers finally looked to be turning a corner, having gone unbeaten in their last nine matches in all competitions, but it may not be all rosy behind the curtains anymore.

Tavernier has been slammed for many of his performances this season, especially with a lot of the Ibrox faithful expecting him to leave in the summer, and this could be the last straw.

The club captain voicing his opinions to the manager behind closed doors is one thing, but looking as though he actively disagreed with his choices on the pitch is a different problem entirely.

In other Rangers news, Peter Grant has hit out at Philippe Clement after what he’s seen at Ibrox recently, “You’re being stubborn now”.
