Italy int'l makes decision after Everton transfer approach - report

Federico Gatti has turned down a move to Everton despite the club’s renewed interest in signing the Juventus defender, according to Tuttosport.

The online publication reported on Saturday (July 13) that the 26-year-old, who has been on the Toffees’ radar for some time, opted to stay with the Italian giants following discussions about his future.

Italy international Gatti had a reassuring phone call from Juventus manager Thiago Motta, who expressed his desire to keep the versatile defender in Turin.

Everton will now need to explore other options to strengthen their backline ahead of the upcoming season after their approach for Gatti failed.

Everton miss out on Juventus ace Federico Gatti

Everton must be disappointed as they miss out on Gatti once again. The Juventus defender has decided to stay put despite interest from the Toffees, Newcastle United and others.

Gatti sticking with Juventus makes sense, though – he’s been there a while and feels at home. He’s had chats with the new Juventus boss Motta and feels wanted in the team’s plans.

It’s a blow for Everton, who were keen on shoring up their defence with Gatti’s skills. But for Gatti, it’s all about continuing to grow and perform for Juventus.

The good news for the Toffees is that there are plenty more defenders out there. Sean Dyche might now turn his attention to Jackson Tchatchoua, albeit he is more of an attacking full-back.

The Hellas Verona player has been heavily linked with a move to Goodison Park, with Everton now quoted a new transfer fee. Tchatchoua impressed in Serie A last season and is a highly sought-after full-back.

The bottom line is that there is still plenty of time left to sign players, and Gatti certainly will not be the last target to fall through the net.

In other Everton news, the Toffees have opened transfer negotiations over their new top target.
