Everton reach new Dele Alli agreement with Tottenham - report

Everton have reached an agreement with Tottenham that means they won’t have to pay them anything if they re-sign Dele Alli, according to the Nizaar Kinsella.

Writing on his personal X account (13 July), the BBC journalist shared that a new agreement with Spurs that means they won’t pay a further fee should they offer him a new contract has been found. However, additional payments for any performance-related bonuses and the sell-on clause remain from the original agreement.

The former England international is currently a free agent but is training with Everton this pre-season, as Sean Dyche gives him a chance to prove himself before a decision is made.

Everton were due to pay Tottenham £10m after 20 appearances as part of their initial agreement, but Dele didn’t feature at all last season due to injury and was released when his contract expired last month.

Everton to re-sign Dele Alli as free agent?

Dyche has made it a personal mission of his to help Dele get back to the top of his game, and that can only benefit Everton at this point.

After he and Andre Gomes were released, the club needed to find a way to replace their midfield options, which allowed Tim Iroegbunam to come in and add an option. But with Amadou Onana now close to moving to Aston Villa too [Fabrizio Romano, 13 July], more additions are necessary.

When at the top of his game Dele was one of the best goalscoring midfielders in the world but injury and personal issues have held him back in recent years, understandably.

He is seemingly knuckling down at this point though to prove his fitness, and if he is willing to take a significant drop in wages and work hard for his place then it would be great to have him as part of the squad.

It will be interesting to see, but with Everton now not owing anything to Spurs either there is even less risk in offering him fresh terms.

In other Everton news, the club are set to make a bid for a brand new attacker in days according to Fabrizio Romano.
