James Tavernier bid readied as Rangers look to prepare for life without him - report

Rangers should receive a concrete bid for James Tavernier soon amid transfer interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League, according to The Fourth Official.

The outlet reported via its Patreon page on Thursday (6 June) that the Light Blues’ skipper is the subject of interest from a number of clubs in the Middle East ahead of the transfer window, including Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq.

Although a number of teams appear to be tracking the 32-year-old, Philippe Clement’s side are yet to receive a genuine bid for his services, but an actual transfer offer is expected to arrive sooner rather than later.

The Light Blues are already preparing for life without their captain and are expected to accept a big offer should it arrive.

It feels like the speculation around Tavernier’s future has been never-ending as the Light Blues captain has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia ever since Gerrard took over at Al-Ettifaq, but so far, no real bid has been made.

While the Englishman has been a crucial part of Clement’s side since the Belgian arrived in Glasgow, he has been caught out a few too many times this season, particularly in the Old Firm games where he has looked off of the pace.

If a big bid was made for his services, the Gers would be stupid not to hear it out. Tavernier isn’t getting any younger and now would be the perfect time to move him on without missing out on what could be a large transfer fee.

It will be interesting to see whether this offer that is reportedly coming soon will be made and how Rangers react to it. Will Clement be interested in selling his skipper to help fund a summer overhaul in Glasgow?

Only time will tell, but this is definitely a transfer saga that is going to run until the window shuts or Tavernier does move away. Who knows what will come first?
