Jose Cifuentes could be set for Rangers return after developments - report

Jose Cifuentes looks set to return to Rangers once his loan deal at Cruzeiro expires in December, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper has reported on 9 July that following a disappointing loan spell in Brazil, Cifuentes looks set to make a return to Ibrox.

This comes after the midfielder has made just one start for Cruzeiro since arriving, despite them having a permanent option in the deal.

Of all the additions Michael Beale made during his time with the Gers, Cifuentes was arguably one of the least impressive.

Although he was touted for great things and only had a relatively low fee hanging over his head, the Ecuador international failed to perform.

In fact, he is only likely remembered for that red card he managed to pick up against Dundee before sealing his exit from Govan.

The move to Cruzeiro was supposed to be the reignition of the midfielder’s career after having a promising start at LAFC.

However, that hasn’t happened, with his one start proof that things are not going well.

Unless he manages to improve his game over the next few months, the Gers could be stuck with another player on their books burning a wage.

It also remains to be seen how Cifuentes would even fit into the squad with new additions Connor Barron and the returning Ianis Hagi both taking up similar positions.
