Leicester City next manager: Likely winner named in Potter & Cooper race

Leicester City have made Graham Potter and Steve Cooper the top choices for their managerial vacancy, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the Foxes were upset by the departure of Enzo Maresca, who left the club for Chelsea earlier this month (3 June).

Leicester have moved quickly to identify their top targets for the role after promotion back to the Premier League.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that Potter, who was last in work at Chelsea in the 2022-23 campaign, is the slight favourite for the job at the King Power Stadium.

However, the 49-year-old has rejected several roles since leaving Stamford Bridge and is yet to be convinced about taking the Leicester job.

Cooper, who was sacked at Nottingham Forest in December 2023, is the second favourite to replace Maresca.

Leicester won the Championship in the 2023-24 campaign, finishing one point ahead of Ipswich Town.

Maresca only took the hot seat last summer but has already been headhunted by Chelsea after his impressive season at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes could be hit with a points deduction to start next season after they were charged with a breach of Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) during their title-winning campaign.

Ex-Brighton and Chelsea boss Potter has taken charge of 141 Premier League games to date and has a win percentage of just over 29%.

Cooper took charge of 54 top-flight games at Forest and has a win percentage of 20.4%.

In other news, Leicester could now land two points deductions in new twist, says expert.
