Yves Bissouma is suspended for the clash between Tottenham and Southampton on Sunday.
Spurs are without a win in five matches following their 1-1 UEFA Europa League draw with Rangers at Ibrox on 12 December, with Ange Postecoglou under increasing pressure in North London.
Therefore, the Australian is in desperate need of three points at St Mary’s Stadium on 15 December and is expected to make three changes for the Premier League clash. However, Postecoglou is without several key players, which will make victory difficult.
An “extraordinary” number of players are already injured as it is, and Bissouma will also be unavailable after picking up his fifth Premier League booking this season in the 4-3 defeat to Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday [8 December].
And Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham has predicted who is likely to replace the Mali international while speaking exclusively to Tottenham News.
“With Rodrigo Bentancur also unavailable, it isn’t easy,” Wenham said.
“Therefore, I presume that James Maddison will be the one to replace Bissouma and start alongside Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Matar Sarr.
“Lucas Bergvall would be the other option. However, despite his impressive cameo against Rangers, I still don’t see him as a Premier League player at the moment.”
James Maddison to replace Yves Bissouma for Tottenham v Southampton?
Postecoglou is so limited when it comes to options at the moment. Therefore, it looks as though he has little choice but to start Maddison against the Saints.
The midfielder has often been benched in recent weeks and appears to have fallen down the pecking order in North London.
Few could have predicted that Maddison would become a squad player just a year into his Tottenham career. However, that appears to be the situation, with the 27-year-old’s future at the club up in the air.
As a result, he must use this potential opportunity on Sunday to remind Postecoglou of his quality.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou looks to be putting his job on the line after a Richarlison transfer update emerged.
