Liverpool Exclusive: Significant Andy Robertson update today

Liverpool boss Arne Slot still counts on Andy Robertson as his first-choice left-back despite his irregular recent involvement, sources have told Football Insider.

Robertson, 30, is out of contract in less than two years – and the Reds plan to open contract talks with him next summer.

Sources say Liverpool want to prevent the situation they are tangled in with Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold – who are out of contract in 2025.

Robertson was an unused substitute at the weekend as the Merseysiders beat Brighton 2-1 at Anfield.

Slot has spoken out in recent days to insist he doesn’t have a selection “dilemma” at left-back, but rather insisting the Scotland international is not yet fully fit.

He said: “It probably also has to do with Robbo’s pre-season. He had no pre-season because he came back injured from the Euros so he missed almost the whole pre-season. For most of them it was only two weeks but for him it was only a few days.”

Liverpool could open Robertson talks next year

Robertson is still a key man in the Liverpool dressing room and is part of the leader’s committee at Anfield.

He made 30 appearances last term despite sustaining serious shoulder and ankle injuries – scoring three goals and notching two assists.

The left-back has been at the club since 2017 and has won the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup.

He captained the Reds during their League Cup victory over Brighton last week and is also the skipper of the Scottish national side.
