Manchester United in talks with Serie A star as Plan B to Manuel Ugarte move
The Red Devils are not done in the transfer market.
Manchester United are in talks over a move for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but will only do a deal if their pursuit of Manuel Ugarte ends in failure.
The Red Devils have been trying to do a deal for Ugarte all summer and have agreed personal terms with the Uruguay international.
However, Paris Saint-Germain are sticking to their guns on the €70million (£58.8m) price tag they have placed on Ugarte and Manchester United are not willing to pay it.
United are still working on that move, but are keeping their options open elsewhere, with Ederson on their shopping list.
Spanish publication AS report that the Red Devils are ‘in constant talks with all parties’ over a deal for the 25-year-old and have positioned themselves to make the move if they can’t get Ugarte.
Ederson has been with Atalanta since 2022 when he signed from Salernitana and has been a regular in the first team ever since.
The Brazil international played 53 games, scoring seven goals in all competitions last season as Atalanta won the Europa League.
Atalanta do not want to let Ederson go and have valued him at €60m (£51.1m), so would not be a significantly cheaper option than Ugarte if they stick to that price.
Manchester United are not the only side keen on Ederson, with Aston Villa, Juventus and Atletico Madrid all credited with an interest in the midfielder.
Speaking about his future earlier in the summer, he told AS: ‘I am very happy at Atalanta. I have just won a big title, I am very well integrated. My future is something that does not worry me.’
