Newcastle fans are divided as Toon journalist savages four big names in message

Newcastle United fans were stunned after four of their star players were slammed on social media following the defeat to Fulham.

Eddie Howe’s side were defeated 3-1 at Craven Cottage after goals from Raul Jimenez, Emile Smith Rowe and Reiss Nelson, while Harvey Barnes scored for the Magpies.

Following the defeat, The Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards took to social media following the defeat as he slammed Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton for their performances so far this season.

Despite the club sitting in sixth place with ten points from their first five games, performances have been a concern, and the Fulham result saw tempers flare.

Some of Howe’s most important players have yet to show up this season, and fans are beginning to grow tired of their lacklustre displays.

The manager has taken plenty of stick so far this season, with fans regularly calling for his head, but their grievances have now turned towards the players.

With none of Gordon, Isak, Bruno or Joelinton performing to their usual standard, many at St James’ Park are beginning to question their attitudes.

All four of the star players at Newcastle have a combined total of 3 goals and 2 assists from their opening five games of the season – a return which has seen Newcastle struggle through games.

Harvey Barnes, meanwhile, has three goals and one assist by himself despite his limited minutes, and they have also relied on the likes of Fabian Schar to come up with crucial goals.

If the club’s biggest players aren’t performing, the rest of the team will often follow suit, leading to below-par performances as the Magpies have seen this season.

Expectations at Newcastle are high, with fans expecting European qualification at the end of the season, and they are now taking to social media to express their concern.

Gordon, Isak, Bruno and Joelinton have all been poor this season. Results and presence of other more convenient scapegoats mean they got away with it. The failure to strengthen the squad has knock on effects. Players get too comfortable and can question ambition too.

You’d be forgiven for thinking these players are not listening to Howe anymore. Joelinton, Bruno, Gordon and Schar etc.. are in awful form or are just not on the same wavelength as previous seasons. One defeat isn't the issue. Let's be honest though, we have been awful away from home for 15 months now, without any sign of addressing it. Eddie Howe needs to identify his best team quickly.
