Everton could be set for a cash injection already with their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock considered to host a Rugby League test, according to the Daily Mail.
World champions Australia are set to tour the UK for the first time in 20 years next Autumn and will lock horns with England in a three-match Ashes series.
The newspaper reported via its website on 7 November that officials are looking to cash in on the event, with the Toffees’ yet-to-open stadium an option to host one of the games.
Everton Stadium under consideration for Ashes test
The stadium does not finish construction until the end of the year and Everton will only move in next season, but the prospect of hosting an Ashes test is good news for the club.
No one needs to be reminded of the Toffees’ financial troubles and any chance to ease the situation needs to be welcomed with open arms.
The stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, which has a capacity of 52,888 and could be expanded further (The Athletic), offers the Merseyside outfit an opportunity to boost their finances and this news epitomises it.
Naming rights deals are another way Everton can bolster their coffers, with football finance expert Dan Plumley telling Goodison News they could bag a deal worth £200million.
However, nothing is set in stone and there are still chances that the Ashes test is not held at Everton’s new stadium anyway.
Wembley is under consideration to host a game in London, while Leeds and Hull are potential options for one in Yorkshire. Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium and Tottenham are also reportedly in the mix.
In other Everton news, Sean Dyche is walking on thin ice ahead of the trip to West Ham on Saturday (9 November) amid a new sack update.
