'Opposite of loyalty' - Dave King slams Rangers footage he saw after Old Firm defeat

Dave King has slammed Rangers fans for abuse aimed at James Tavernier outside Ibrox after the latest Old Firm defeat.

Supporters waited outside their home ground after the humiliating 3-0 defeat against Celtic, criticising the players and managers for their performances.

Frustrations were aimed at the Gers’ captain which, former chairman King thought was unfair given his impact on the club while speaking to the Daily Record on 7 September.

He said: “Rangers supporters are loyal supporters. Turning on our captain, who has been 100 per cent loyal to Rangers and (memories are short) repeatedly saved us in key games for a decade, is the opposite of loyalty and I hope that most supporters will join me in condemning such behaviour.

“Supporter anger should not be directed at our team.”

The atmosphere around the Light Blues is becoming toxic right now and that wasn’t helped by yet another defeat in the Old Firm.

So much has gone wrong this season already which has left fans at the end of their tether which is impacting their opinion on the players.

This started before the season with a forced move to Hampden Park after works at Ibrox ran over into the new campaign.

This has been followed by a poor start to the campaign which has seen Philippe Clement come under fire.

Supporters took aim at the Belgian after the derby defeat and also piled in on the players with Tavernier being the main target for abuse.

The Englishman has done so much for the club and has been an ever-present for some amazing moments over the last nine years.

Given the poor form and issues with the hierarchy, it is time for supporters to come together and get behind the players rather than piling more pressure on them.
