Derek Clark has admitted he expects Adam Devine to leave Rangers during the summer transfer window after new developments at Ibrox.

The journalist reported via the Rangers Review YouTube channel (11 July, 19:50) that the young defender was snubbed from Philippe Clement’s squad for the Gers’ pre-season camp in the Netherlands.

Although a summer move away from Glasgow isn’t a certainty, the 21-year-old is expected to leave Ibrox during the transfer window despite playing in the B Team’s win over Blackpool during pre-season.

Speaking on Rangers Review Morning Briefing, Clark said: “Adam Devine, not going with the first team squad over to the Netherlands, he was part of the B Team that beat Blackpool the other day.

“I think basically tells you everything you need to know, I would expect Adam Devine to move on this summer and I would wish him well wherever he goes if that is the case.”

Are Rangers close to any new signings in the summer transfer window?

While Rangers fans have always been slightly frustrated by the fact Devine hasn’t been given a genuine run in the first team following his initial breakthrough, it is clear that Clement doesn’t think he has what it takes to play for the Gers.

The 21-year-old had a reasonable loan spell at Motherwell last term where he showed he has the ability to be a good Premiership player, but the pressure and level required when playing for an Old Firm side is on another level.

At this moment in time, the Gers are also reasonably well stocked at right-back with both James Tavernier and Dujon Sterling capable of starting there and offering more with or without the ball than Devine.

This situation is incredibly similar to that of Robby McCrorie as both academy graduates need to be playing regular first-team football this season. But because of competition at Ibrox, that opportunity isn’t available in Glasgow.

Hopefully, Devine will be able to find himself a good move just like McCrorie has this summer.
