Report: Arsenal trying to land 'talented' player for who dreams of Premier League move with cheeky bid

Arsenal are trying their luck this summer as they look to get their first signing over the line.

Already, Edu Gaspar has lodged a bid believed to be worth just £50k for Wolves goalkeeper Dan Bentley which was quickly rejected.

There are some bigger aspirations at the Emirates this summer with Arsenal also eyeing a move for the Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.

However, it seems a deal for Calafiori may now go into the new week with the two sides locked in negotiations over the final fee.

But Mikel Arteta has more than just one position on his agenda this summer as Arsenal look to address their situation between the sticks.

And it seems the north London side have now lodged another bid for a different goalkeeper just hours after being rejected by Wolves.

Arsenal lodge cheeky bid for third-choice goalkeeper

Already this summer, Arsenal have secured the permanent signing of David Raya from Brentford.

Although it may have been a matter of when rather than if, Arsenal made the Spaniard’s stay in north London permanent after activating the buy clause in his loan for £27m.

However, Arteta is still in need of reinforcement this summer with the Arsenal manager looking to add a third-choice keeper.

Having been knocked back in their efforts to land Bentley from Wolves, Arsenal have already made a move for another option.

According to Dutch outlet Telegraaf, Arsenal have made a seriously cheeky attempt to land Charlie Steford from Ajax.

The Gunners made an offer of €400k (£335k) for the young England U20 goalkeeper who is currently playing for the Ajax U21 side.

Although it may be seen as a fair offer for a youngster without first-team experience, it is a cheeky offer considering Ajax will get that very figure this time next year if Setford leaves due to the training compensation rule.

Setford is yet to play for the senior side but he has been hailed as one of their most promising talents having been labelled as ‘talented‘ by the club website.

A big positive for the Gunners is Setford has already admitted in an interview with BBC Sport that he has the dream of playing in the Premier League one day.

Aaron Ramsdale’s future remains in doubt

Although Arsenal find themselves looking for a third-choice goalkeeper this summer, big questions remain over the future of Aaron Ramsdale.

The 26-year-old has found himself as second-choice behind Raya and needing to play more regular football.

Ramsdale is currently away on international duty with England, however, it has been suggested he could move on this summer.

Arteta has hailed Ramsdale for what he provided off the pitch last season, but that is unlikely to be enough to keep the keeper satisfied going into the new campaign.
