Tom English was blown away by Vaclav Cerny as Rangers secured a 2-1 victory against Motherwell on Saturday (10 August).

The 26-year-old loanee continued his fine form in a Light Blue shirt following his vital assist in a 1-1 Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday 6 August,

Cerny bettered his contribution for the Gers on this occasion, though, curling home a beautiful effort as Philippe Clement’s side regained the lead against the Steelmen.

Speaking live via BBC Sportsound on Saturday (10 August, 3:56pm), English said: “It was a sensational ball into Scott Wright early on, who rounded the ‘keeper but faced with great defensive play from Motherwell.

“Then, there was an outstanding goal from Cerny – he looks really good, he looks sharp.”

Clement will be overjoyed with the Wolfsburg loanee as he continues to justify the reason why the Gers completed a loan deal for him this summer.

Cerny probably should have left the field with an additional assist to his name, too, with Wright missing an opportunity to take an early lead after an incredible run from the Czechia international.

A few eyebrows were raised when links began appearing to the winger earlier this summer, with only five goals for his team in the Bundesliga last season, but those doubts have quickly been silenced.

Fans will need to be careful not to fall in love with him so easily, wanting to avoid a similar situation to that of Brighton’s Abdallah Sima who has still not returned to Ibrox after a sensational 2023/24 season.

Although, with the Gers just three matches into the new campaign, those concerns will not be at the forefront of anyone’s mind, especially if Cerny continues to dazzle on the pitch.

Cyriel Dessers will also be rather happy with the signing, with a new player to provide him with more chances in the penalty area, with the pair already working together.
