Rangers fan Declan McDonald was given a round of applause at Thursday’s AGM meeting after suggesting the current owners sell the club.
The Gers boardroom has been under immense pressure, especially this season, as Philippe Clement’s side continues to falter on the pitch, which in turn has seen the club fall further behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.
Some fans now believe a drastic change in ownership is needed to turn things at Ibrox, with John Gilligan acknowledging the drop between now and the 2020/21 campaign.
Taking to X on Thursday (5 December), Colin McMillan of the Heart and Hand podcast wrote: “Question from Declan McDonald who asked about the revenues mentioned. How much of it comes from the fans?
“Executive-level mistakes have set our club back decades. Hard work has been thrown away. You are blind to the damage you are doing. Can you not see that it’s time you started selling the club?
“Applause in the room after this.”
Rangers fans to get wish after full sale mooted at Ibrox?
It is highly unlikely that those in a majority shareholder position will sell but it is definitely understandable to see the anger and frustration at the AGM, given the club’s current situation.
Other than the special 2020/21 campaign under Steven Gerrard, which saw the Light Blues lift the 55th league title in their history, it has all been doom and gloom in recent seasons.
While many fans will refuse to admit it, there is a clear gulf between the Gers and their Old Firm rivals Celtic, on the pitch with results and off the pitch financially.
The current campaign highlights that more than ever, with Clement’s side slipping 11 points behind the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership table, even going four points behind Aberdeen.
The Gers should be competing at the highest level, including the Champions League, but after being knocked out of qualifying, the biggest worry is losing third place to Dundee United.
There needs to be massive changes on and off the pitch if the boardroom is serious about improving the club’s current position, and that all starts from the very top.
In other Rangers news, Steven Naismith gushed over a “massive player” who “opened doors” in the 6-0 win v Kilmarnock.
