Stefan Borson drops verdict on Newcastle selling 32-yr-old in £15m deal

Newcastle United could struggle to receive Callum Wilson’s £15million asking price as they look to free up cash for new arrivals before the transfer deadline.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the north-east giants could be limited in their summer spending if they don’t manage to offload some of their fringe players.

Newcastle have secured the permanent signings of Lewis Hall, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Lloyd Kelly and John Ruddy this summer, while Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson have been sold in big-money deals.

Wilson has also been linked with an exit, but Football Insider revealed on 10 July there has been little interest in the forward as the Tynesiders are seeking a fee in the region of £15million for his services.

Newcastle could face issue receiving Callum Wilson valuation

Borson believes it’s going to be “very hard” for Newcastle to receive a substantial fee for the 32-year-old, whose contract at St James’ Park is due to expire in June 2025.

He told Football Insider: “I think it’s going to be harder than they imagined to sell some of their fringe players that they are talking about.

“They were talking about whether they could get £15-20million for Callum Wilson.

“But the reality is, it’s going to be very hard to get those sorts of fees in.

“I don’t know what their assets are in that pot of players that they can sell.

“They could obviously sell Isak and Guimaraes easily, but if they don’t want to sell those sorts of players, then they will be more limited in terms of what they can bring in.

“That’s just a statement of fact in terms of the way PSR works.”

In other news, Newcastle could now accept bids for attacker.
