Tottenham are never going to win another trophy – Richard Keys

Richard Keys has told Tottenham fans to accept Spurs will never win a trophy again after they lost to Ipswich on Sunday 10 November.

Ange Postecoglou’s side had the opportunity to move third in the Premier League on 10 November but find themselves sitting tenth after losing 2-1 to the Tractor Boys at home.

The result highlighted Spurs’ inconsistency under Postecoglou as they followed their wins against Manchester City and Aston Villa with defeats to Galatasaray and Ipswich, draining Keys of any hopes of seeing the club win silverware.

“I think Tottenham fans might have to accept that they’re never going to win another trophy,” Keys said on beIN Sports (10 November).

“They’ve got a fabulous stadium to play football in that occasionally they will enjoy watching their team in, but…”

When Andy Gray and Jason McAteer challenged him, the broadcaster said: “When was the last one? Juande Ramos, 2008. How many people have tried since?”

Keys was probably only taking a dig at Tottenham, but his statement is a stretch nevertheless as the club has a real chance of winning a trophy this season.

Spurs qualified for the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup after beating Manchester City and will face Manchester United on 19 December for a spot in the semi-finals.

Postecoglou’s side have also won all but one of their four UEFA Europa League games this term, making them a strong candidate to win the competition.

However, the Greek-Australian manager must find consistency if he wants to keep his word of winning a trophy with Spurs this season (Sky Sports).

Tottenham have won only five of their nine games across all competitions since the start of October, failing to string together a run of three consecutive wins.

They will have a chance to return to winning ways when they visit Manchester City in the league after the international break on 23 November and it remains to be seen if they can repeat the 2-1 win against the champions in the League Cup on 30 October.
