Update Today: Newcastle's Eddie Howe stance revealed after Man United latest

Newcastle are not concerned about Eddie Howe quitting to take the Man United job, sources have told Football Insider.

It’s understood that United have shortlisted the 46-year-old as they make contingency plans should they decide to sack current boss Erik ten Hag.

The 54-year-old Dutchman’s future at the 20-time Premier League champions remains up in the air after leading them to their worst-ever start to a league season, sitting in 12th after eight games.

There have been suggestions that Howe could be tempted by a move to Old Trafford but Newcastle’s stance, as relayed to Football Insider, is that they have no doubts about his commitment.

Eddie Howe reaffirms commitment to Newcastle United

Howe had been linked with the England national job before Thomas Tuchel was appointed but admitted there was no contact from the FA when asked if he was close to agreeing terms.

“I was not. There was no contact from the FA,” he said ahead of their Premier League defeat to Brighton on Saturday (October 19).

“For me, it’s about Newcastle and trying to win games and it’s hard enough to do that if you are 100% focused, and I will always remain that way to my work.

“If you drop your levels, then the job becomes impossible and at no stage have I allowed myself to do that.”

Newcastle have had a mixed start to the season and are placed ninth in the Premier League after eight matches. They have scored just seven league goals from open play so far this season and failing to net in their last two league games

They next face a tricky away trip to Stamford Bridge as they prepare to face Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea on Sunday (October 27).
