Van Dijk responds to Mohamed Salah's message after Liverpool contract news

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has sent a message to teammate Mohamed Salah after the defender admitted there was “no update” regarding a new deal.

Both Van Dijk, 33, and Salah, 32, are set to become free agents in the summer and will be able to negotiate a pre-agreement with foreign clubs from January 1st.

According to The Athletic, Liverpool have opened talks with the Dutch defender but the offer is understood to be way off Van Dijk’s demands.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 6-3 win over Tottenham Van Dijk said: “There is no deadline at all. We will see what the future brings. Is there an update? No.”

The two players have been key to Arne Slot’s impressive start to life at Anfield, helping them to the top of both the Premier League and the new Champions League league phase.

Liverpool are four points above Chelsea in second with a game in hand, accumulating 39 points from their 17 games.

The centre-back has once again been key for Liverpool, starting all 22 of his games, scoring two goals, and providing an assist in his 1980 minutes on the field.

Salah is in the form of his life under Slot, starting 22 of his 24 appearances across all competitions, scoring 18 goals, and providing 15 assists in 1970 minutes of action.

The Egyptian winger took to Instagram to share an image of himself and his family celebrating Christmas, which Van Dijk promptly liked.

Liverpool have two games remaining in December, starting with a visit from Ruud van Nistelrooy’s struggling Leicester side on Boxing Day (December 26).

Slot’s side will then travel to London to face West Ham to round off 2024 as they seek to end a hectic festive period with a win.
