Ange Postecoglou has been unable to call on Son Heung-min in his confirmed Tottenham team to take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday (29 September).

After a tricky start to the season, Spurs finally seem to be building some momentum following three consecutive wins.

Therefore, Postecoglou will be keen to continue building this momentum, with a statement win against United at Old Trafford the perfect way to do that.

However, that task looks to have become increasingly more difficult. It was reported by the Daily Mail (29 September) that Spurs’ captain Son was set to miss the clash at Old Trafford.

And that has now been confirmed via the club’s official X account (29 September), with Timo Werner taking the South Korean forward’s place.

Son Heung-min unavailable for Tottenham against Manchester United

Son hasn’t been at his best this season. However, he is still the club’s leading scorer in the Premier League this season with two goals.

Therefore, the absence of a big-name player such as that, regardless of the form he is in, is no doubt a big blow to Postecoglou and Tottenham.

Son came off injured in the 3-0 UEFA Europa League win over Qarabağ FK at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (29 September). As a result, some might be questioning Postecoglou’s decision to start the 31-year-old in that match.

As per Sofascore, Son completed 88 per cent of his passes, with one of those key, and created one big chance against Qarabağ.

He also was accurate with 100 per cent of his crosses into the box while winning one of his three ground duels and one foul for the team.

However, it could have been argued that his presence would have been much more useful against United. Therefore, starting him in the Europa League was a risk, a risk which looks to have backfired for Postecoglou.

With Wilson Odobert already out injured, Postecoglou will be hopeful that Son isn’t on the sidelines for too long.
