View: Time for Rangers to pounce for player Clement wants after Romano update

One thing that Rangers fans could likely agree upon is the fact that there was plenty of change needed at Ibrox for the 2024/25 season.

A mass exodus of players whose contracts expired at the end of the season occurred, with the likes of John Lundstram and Borna Barisic among those who departed.

In light of this, there was bound to be a lot of new faces coming into the Gers’ squad this summer.

However, Abdallah Sima is one of the players who found themselves on loan in Glasgow last term that Philippe Clement would like to bring back.

And, thanks to Brighton now agreeing a deal to bring Minteh to the club, as shared by Fabrizio Romano in a late-night update on Saturday (29 June), the Gers have been handed a boost in their chase for Sima.

Although Minteh and Sima don’t necessarily play in the same role, the addition of the former will no doubt affect the Senegalese international’s game time.

The striker will now be further down the pecking order thanks to the former Feyenoord loanees’ ability to play anywhere across the front three.

It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that Rangers are in the market for another attacker this term.

The departure of Kemar Roofe has left the Glasgow-based outfit somewhat light up top, especially with Cyriel Dessers supposedly handing in a transfer request to exit Ibrox [Soccernet, 25 June].

A deal for Sima would make sense for both parties as the Brighton man already knows the ins and outs of the club and has played under Clement’s tactical style for a season already.

Thus meaning that his integration into the first-team fold would likely be seamless.

Plus, the fact that Sima’s contract runs out at the end of the 2024/25 season also plays in the Gers’ favour as they may be able to acquire his services for a cut-rate price.
