Wenham hails 'Exciting' 18y/o Tottenham man, predicts him to replace long-serving Spurs star

John Wenham has backed Archie Gray to replace Ben Davies in the first-team squad at Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose has suggested that with Davies out of contract at the end of the season, Gray could be his replacement.

Having joined Spurs from Leeds United in the summer, the 18-year-old has made six appearances for the first team this season.

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is excited about the versatile Spurs youngster.

“Gray is doing really well,” Wenham said.

“I think, at a minimum, he is going to become the next Davies in the squad, in terms of his reliability in multiple positions.

“Davies is out of contract this summer and I can see Gray taking his role in the squad. Him being so young and counting as homegrown too, that is really exciting.”

Archie Gray to replace Ben Davies at Tottenham?

Ange Postecoglou will no doubt be a fan of Gray’s versatility.

During his time at Spurs, this is something which Davies has also displayed, having continued to step up this season when called upon. Therefore, Gray could be a natural replacement for the Welshman, and might even go on to surpass him.

With Davies set to turn 32 this season, Spurs might decide against offering him a new contract. However, he is an important part of the squad and the club’s longest-current serving star.

Therefore, he will need replacing. Luckily, it looks as though Gray is ready to do that, and after a season gaining first-team experience, he will be even more prepared.
