Ashley Young believes Sean Dyche is an “honest” manager and never hides behind injuries as an excuse for poor form at Everton.

For the 0-0 draw against Newcastle United before the international break, Dyche was without Jarrad Branthwaite, Armando Broja, Nathan Patterson, Seamus Coleman and Youssef Chermiti.

While injuries cannot be used as the sole excuse for the Toffees’ form at the start of the season, losing their opening four games, it will come as a massive boost as players edge closer to first-team returns.

Speaking live via talkSPORT on Thursday (17 October, 9:30am), Young said: “With the manager, he’s just honest, true, and is never going to complain about bad injuries.

“We’ve had big injuries to Seamus [Coleman] and Jarrad [Branthwaite], Patterson coming back, Armando Broja as well. You can add Youssef [Chermiti] to that as well.”

Sean Dyche to remain Everton manager as fortunes change at Goodison Park?

The manager has certainly been under a lot of pressure at the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign, especially following the back-to-back comeback defeats to Bournemouth and Aston Villa in which they surrendered a two-goal lead in both games.

Now, however, the Toffees have climbed out of the dreaded relegation zone, sitting two spots above in the Premier League with five points, claiming all of them from their last three games.

The 2-1 win over Crystal Palace looks to be the turning point in the Toffees’ season, having followed it up with the goalless draw against the Magpies, and now they will fancy their chances of getting valuable points at Ipswich Town on Saturday 19 October.

Three points against the Tractor Boys would push them further up the table, but more importantly, away from the dropzone, which is currently occupied by Palace, Southampton and Wolves.

Dyche’s squad is more than talented enough to survive the threat of relegation, and should probably be aiming for a top-half finish, which made the opening few results all the more surprising.
