The completion of Everton’s new stadium will be a determining factor in whether or not previous bidders come back to the takeover table, according to Alan Myers.
Myers wrote in an article for Sky Sports (19 July) that the likes of John Textor and the Manoukian Group might consider coming back to the table after it was confirmed the Friedkin Group takeover had collapsed on Friday.
He added that they would be comforted by the fact “the stadium is safe, built and almost completely paid for.”
Everton insider Bryan King exclusively told Goodison News on 7 July that the Friedkin Group takeover hit a “stumbling block” due to the money that was owed to 777 Partners.
The next step for Everton
Myers strikes a very positive tone at a time where Evertonians will understandably be extremely concerned about what happens next following the Friedkin deal falling through.
As well as suggestion that previously interested parties might now look to strike a deal again, there is genuine hope that the club are back on an even keel when it comes to meeting Profit and Sustainability rules, an area that has battered the clubs in recent times.
The suggestions thus far even seem to signify that the collapse of the takeover won’t have much of an impact in their deals in the transfer window, meaning prized assets such as Jarrad Branthwaite might be able to retained this summer.
If that is to be the case it would obviously be a huge boost to Everton and, even though the news yesterday was not ideal, perhaps there is still reason to be optimistic provided there is some clarity on any interested parties in the near future.
As far as Everton Stadium is concerned, everything appears to be going to plan. The ground is expected to open in time for the 2025/26 campaign and, given the stakes, priority number one this season will be simple – maintain top-flight status by any means necessary.
In other Everton news, Manchester United have submitted a bid in an attempt to hijack Aston Villa’s move for Amadou Onana.
