Arsenal Sources: Significant Riccardo Calafiori update today

Arsenal are set to hold new talks this week as they look to reach a full agreement with Bologna over a deal to sign Riccardo Calafiori, sources have told Football Insider.

Negotiations are advancing between the two clubs as Bologna are holding out for their £42million valuation to be met.

Sources say Arsenal are in pole position to agree a deal for Calafiori ahead of fellow Premier League side Chelsea and Serie A clubs.

The centre-back recently impressed for Italy at the European Championships before his side were knocked out in the last 16 by Switzerland.

The 22-year-old’s contract is set to run until June 2027, but Bologna are willing to sanction his exit if their asking price is met this summer.

Calafiori only joined Bologna from Swiss side Basel in a £4.2million deal last August before going on to have a hugely impressive campaign in Serie A.

The Italian club are now looking to make 10 times that amount on the defender after placing a £42million valuation on his head this summer.

The centre-back, who can also play at left-back, started in 27 of his 33 appearances for Bologna last season as they secured their place in the Champions League.

Calafiori played every minute in the European Championship group stages for Italy, but he was suspended for their knockout defeat against Switzerland.

Football Insider previously revealed Tottenham were keeping tabs on the Italian, but their north London rivals Arsenal are now in pole position to land his signature.
