'Being sealed right now': Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal now selling truly 'amazing' talent

Arsenal are set for a busy end to the summer transfer window, with one more senior signing set to arrive and several players in line to be offloaded.

In terms of incomings, the Gunners have already signed Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna, and they’re now set to add Real Sociedad’s Mikel Merino to their ranks.

Arsenal have also been busy on the outgoings front. The Gunners have already let several first-teamers leave this summer, and several more could soon follow.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on an Arsenal talent who is set to be sold to a former La Liga winner.

Arsenal gem Charlie Patino completing Deportivo La Coruna move

The player in question is Arsenal midfielder Charlie Patino, who is on the verge of a move to Deportivo La Coruna.

Romano took to X to say the Patino to Depor move is “being sealed right now”, with the Gunners set to receive a £1million fee.

The transfer insider said Arsenal have also included a “significant” sell-on clause and will keep “potential future control on the player”.

Patino previously backed for Foden-esque rise

There were high hopes for the ‘outstanding’ midfielder when he was coming through the ranks at Hale End.

For instance, former Arsenal scout Brian Stapleton told Goal, via The Mirror, in 2021: “Sean O’Connor discovered Jack Wilshere and he said to me that Charlie is the best player who has ever walked through the doors at Hale End. The kid has got so much potential, but he’s not there yet.

“There is a pathway that Arsenal have got for him and he’s probably going down the same pathway as Phil Foden at Manchester City.

“Charlie has an amazing awareness of where he is on the pitch and where other players are on the pitch. His vision is so good, he can split a defence with a pass.

“And he has that desire to do well. When he’s on that pitch he can be an animal, he’s a winner.”

However, now it looks as though Patino’s Arsenal journey is coming to an end – at least for now – and his adventure in Spain is about to begin.

Deportivo are currently in the Spanish second tier, but they have significant pedigree in the game, having won the Liga title in 2000 and often competing in the Champions League.

Hopefully Patino will quickly prove himself at Depor and either help the club back into La Liga or secure himself a move back into one of Europe’s top leagues.
