Chris Jack: Rangers look for seven-figure transfer fees to sanction double exit

Rangers will be looking to receive “a couple of million” pounds for both Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist reported via the Morning Briefing (30 July) that Philippe Clement’s side will likely be willing to accept seven-figure fees for both attacking midfielders this summer.

Cantwell has officially submitted a request to leave Glasgow ahead of the new campaign, while reports have suggested Ianis Hagi is closing in on a move to Fiorentina having spent last season on loan with Deportivo Alaves [Digi Sport, 26 July].

Speaking on Morning Briefing, Jack said: “I think you’re probably looking at a couple of million each.

“Again, I don’t think the fee is of huge significance because both will be on decent money and you then look at how those wages can be used better.

“But the fee for those two is more important than the fee for Connor Goldson that we spoke about at the start. I think if you can get a couple of million for them, you wish them well, you send them on their way and back the manager, back Nils Koppen to go and try and find upgrades in there.”

Will Todd Cantwell and Ianis Hagi exit Rangers amid Ibrox transfer speculation?

As Jack suggests, the most important thing for the Gers this summer is getting the high earners off of their wage bill rather than pocketing big transfer fees for stars who have been linked with the exit.

Obviously, the Light Blues will have valuations that need to be matched before sanctioning the sales of players like Cantwell and Hagi, but they could well be lower than most supporters expect at this stage of the window.

Rangers won’t be able to command multimillion-pound fees when both midfielder’s desire to leave Ibrox has become so public in recent weeks, but they are still worth a reasonable amount because they’re a talented pair.

Hopefully, a buyer will be found sooner rather than later who is willing to match the Light Blues’ asking price for both players.

With the new season now only a matter of days away, Clement cannot allow this situation to overshadow matters on the playing field.
