Rangers are “demonstrably” in a mess that club chairman John Bennett needs to address immediately, according to David Edgar.

Writing in the Rangers Review (10 July), Edgar said that there is no denying the poor state of the club going into the new season, with question marks hanging over several departments this summer.

Edgar bemoaned the lack of communication regarding the Gers’ temporary home during Ibrox’s continued redevelopments, as well as continued vacancies in the boardroom and the club’s academy.

He said that fears fear a “business-as-usual” approach when changes are required.

He wrote: “The question isn’t if Rangers are a bit of a mess in summer 2024.

“With no CEO, Head of Academy or even a place to play when the season begins, we demonstrably are.

“Business-as-usual is not an option for Rangers now because business-as-usual is exactly what we fans fear. The Chairman needs to address where we are and what he’ll do to get us out of it.”

Rangers fans deserve answers amid summer uncertainty

This summer was always billed as one of change for the Gers, but fans had hoped that the majority of this would be focused on Philippe Clement’s squad as the Belgian leads a sweeping overhaul [Chris Sutton, 15 June].

However, the Ibrox faithful are now getting much more than they bargained for, particularly when it comes to where they’ll be watching their beloved team come the start of next season.

Delays to the rebuilding of the Copland Road Stand have rendered Ibrox unusable until potentially as late as October, forcing the Light Blues out of their home for the first two months of the new campaign [Barry Ferguson, 22 June].

While such circumstances can’t always be helped, radio silence from the club certainly hasn’t helped to assuage the confusion, with no temporary home confirmed and matches starting in less than a month.

The next few days must see Bennett and the rest of the board confirm their decision and begin making plans with fans, but if the lack of communication persists, his popularity will hit an all-time low [Graham McGarry, 9 July].
