Rangers player secures exit, Clement hoped to hand him new contract - report

Philippe Clement had hoped to secure Robby McCrorie to a new long-term contract before he secured his exit from Rangers, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper shared on its website (10 July) that the 26-year-old stopper has ended his nine-year association with the Ibrox club to sign a two-year deal at Kilmarnock.

McCrorie had made his desire for regular game-time clear earlier in the summer, and despite Aberdeen previously looking most likely to sign him, it’s Kilmarnock who have secured his services [Daily Record, 24 May].

Robby McCrorie transfer announcement at Rangers

Given how much McCrorie had made clear that he wanted to play more often at Ibrox, his departure is hardly a shock for Clement [Daily Record, 4 June].

With Butland the undisputed – and deserved – number one, McCrorie made a solitary Scottish Cup start in place of the 30-year-old Englishman last season, showing his low status in the pecking order.

The arrival of Liam Kelly from Motherwell only restricted McCrorie’s first-team chances further this summer, and him moving on from Ibrox looks to be beneficial for all parties.

Had the 26-year-old waited until the end of his contract to move on, the Gers would have received zero financial recompense, and collecting a fee from Kilmarnock could assist their transfer plans [The Rangers Review, 5 June].

Butland and Kelly, alongside highly-rated youngster Mason Munn, still give the Gers plenty of goalkeeping options, while McCrorie will no doubt relish coming up against his former side between the Killie sticks next season.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues want a certain striker during the transfer window after an update emerged from his club.
