Everton player who is back in training not wanted by Dyche - report

Everton defender Mason Holgate has returned to the club for pre-season training but looks likely to be allowed to leave this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Writing on their website (10 July), the outlet reported that Holgate was pictured amongst the early pre-season preparations but has been deemed surplus to requirements by the club.

The 27-year-old spent the last season on loan at Southampton and then Sheffield United and is no longer in Sean Dyche’s plans.

Footage of Holgate and his Everton team-mates training at Finch Farm was also shared by the club (9 July).

Everton to offload another defender in squad revamp

Everton made great strides on the pitch last season despite Profit and Sustainability rules sanctions.

Dyche led his side to a 15th-place finish in the Premier League during his first full season with the club after two years of flirting with relegation.

The Blues would have finished 11th if it wasn’t for the two points deductions imposed by PSR.

Now Dyche is determined to build on last season’s performances and put together a side capable of climbing up the league table.

They managed to avoid another PSR sanction and raised enough funds before the 30 June deadline through the sales of Lewis Dobbin to Aston Villa and Ben Godfrey to Atalanta.

Manchester United are preparing a third bid for Jarrad Branthwaite, with the Red Devils seemingly lowballing the club regarding their £80million asking price (HITC, 10 July).

But the sales will continue at Goodison Park as Holgate prepares to leave the club in the final year of his contract.

Finding a suitor will be a difficult task for the Blues as he has struggled for regular game time at Everton and failed to perform to a high enough standard on loan.

However, it is a move that makes sense for both parties as the Blues aim to generate funds to invest in the squad and stay on the right side of PSR.

In other Everton news, Everton want to sign Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana ahead of West Ham United.
